Police recovered 200 live cartridges from BRABU hostel in Muzaffarpur and arrested two alleged arms traffickers. The incident has raised serious questions over university security arrangements.
Muzaffarpur / Alam Ki Khabar:A major security scare has emerged from Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Bihar University (BRABU) in Muzaffarpur after police recovered 200 live cartridges from a university hostel and arrested two alleged arms traffickers. The incident has triggered widespread concern over how outsiders managed to stay inside the hostel premises and carry out illegal activities under the guise of students.
According to police officials, the operation was conducted by Kazi Mohammadpur police station based on a confidential tip-off regarding illegal arms supply in and around the university campus. Acting swiftly, a special team was formed, and surveillance was increased in the area to track the suspects.
During the operation, police intercepted two youths on Kalambagh-Khabra Road while they were returning to the hostel on a motorcycle. The arrested individuals have been identified as Abhishek Tiwari, a resident of Siwan, and Anmol Kumar, a resident of Sitamarhi.
A search operation led to the recovery of 200 live cartridges from their possession. Following their arrest, police raided the university hostel and discovered that both accused were illegally residing in PG Third Hostel, Room Numbers 54 and 55, by posing as students.
Preliminary interrogation revealed that the accused were involved in a broader illegal arms supply network. Police are now investigating the source of the ammunition and the intended recipients of this consignment. Authorities are also trying to determine whether the cartridges were meant for supply to criminal gangs operating in the region.
The incident has raised serious questions about the security arrangements inside BRABU. The fact that non-students were able to reside inside the hostel and allegedly use the premises for illegal activities has highlighted possible administrative lapses and weak verification mechanisms.
Officials are also investigating the criminal backgrounds of the arrested individuals. Initial findings suggest that both accused may have prior links to illegal arms-related activities, and further details are being verified. Police are also probing whether the operation is connected to any larger organized criminal network.
The situation is particularly sensitive as the university campus has already been witnessing unrest in recent days. Students have been staging protests over administrative issues, and there were reports of tension following an earlier incident involving an explosion near the Vice-Chancellor’s residence, which is still under investigation.
Given the recovery of such a large quantity of live ammunition from a university hostel, authorities are not ruling out the possibility of a wider conspiracy. However, police have stated that it is too early to draw conclusions and investigations are ongoing in multiple directions.
Senior officials have assured that strict action will be taken against anyone found involved and that hostel security protocols will be reviewed. The university administration is also expected to conduct a verification drive of all hostel residents to prevent further lapses.
Local residents and students have expressed concern over the incident, demanding stricter security arrangements and regular monitoring of university hostels. Many believe that such incidents not only threaten student safety but also damage the reputation of the institution.
Overall, the recovery of 200 live cartridges from BRABU hostel has exposed serious security vulnerabilities and highlighted the need for stronger surveillance and stricter enforcement within educational institutions. Police continue to investigate the case to uncover the full extent of the arms trafficking network.
